OUR VISION & VALUES
VISION
We live in a world where life is not perfect. People make mistakes, ugly events occur and many
times we are deeply affected as a result. Ugly Beauty envisions a world where pain is acknowledged,
addressed, and attention given toward restoration.
Ugly Beauty exists to help wounded girls and women heal. Our daily mission is to partner in the
healing process and help them find beauty beyond the wounds, to ultimately discover and walk in
purpose beyond trauma and the difficulties of life. God wants to heal us where we hurt and empower us
to live life in fullness.
VALUES
CONNECTION
Trauma and the disappointments of life have a way of disconnecting us…from people, from a healthy worldview, from the beauty of life as we knew it before the ugly event. Ugly Beauty puts value in establishing/re-establishing healthy connections. It is a critical component for restoration.
COVERING
This is the element of having a “safe space” for girls and women to be vulnerable and walk through the healing and discovery process. Healing from the pain of life and discovering the purpose of life. When people feel safe/covered, it is easier to be vulnerable.
COMMUNITY
Knowing that you are “not alone” is the secret cry of every beating heart. We were all created to live in community with others, even if our personalities and tendencies are more introverted. Furthermore, the God-given gifts we possess personally are for the benefit of “us” collectively. Likewise, the pain we encounter on a personal level has a way of impacting “us” as a whole. Ugly Beauty values the “us” factor and utilizes this component to achieve both personal and communal restoration.
C.U.R.E
Many people will argue that inward pain and trauma are never fully cured. While there is no “cure” for such pain in the form a pill or medical process, we believe that Christ Ultimately Restores Everything (C.U.R.E.). Ugly Beauty maintains that God is central in the healing and restoration process for those who have been deeply wounded.
CONFIDENCE
This is the “purpose” component of our mission. Our founder, Dr. Lovely N. Poitier, is quoted as saying: “I stand as a confident woman not because I always “feel confident”, but because I comprehend WHO I am, or rather, who God has called me to be and WHAT God has called me to do. Confidence is not a feeling, it’s a knowing.” When one knows and walks in their life’s purpose, he or she will exude confidence. Thus, confidence is not based on feelings, but knowledge and empowerment in purpose.
